Desert Mountain Renegade Golf Info

Renegade Course Description

Opened in 1986, Renegade was the first of six Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Courses to open at Desert Mountain. Golf Digest once called Renegade "The most versatile course in the world". The 7,524-yard course was carefully designed to allow players to vary the course's set-up. Renegade features double and common greens with two pin placements, white and gold, on each hole. Members can choose the degree of difficulty of play depending upon the combination of tee and flag positions. The combination of Renegade's tee and pin positions offers players of varied skill levels a truly unique test. The result is an equally varied slope and course ratings, ranging from 150/75.7 to 121/66.7.

Desert Mountain Cochise Golf Info

Cochise Course Description

Surrounded by the rugged Sonoran Desert, the 7,019-yard Cochise golf course demands a thoughtful and strategic approach. Its signature holes are four of the finest "risk/reward" par-fives to be found anywhere. Throughout Cochise, approach shots require precision shot-making and contoured greens challenge the deftest touch. According to Jack Nicklaus, Cochise is one of the most picturesque golf courses in the world. Unique in the Southwest, Cochise features a double-island green shared by the par-three seventh and the par-five fifteenth holes. The Golden Bear triumphed four times when Cochise played host to "The Tradition", a major championship on the Senior PGA Tour.

Desert Mountain Geronimo Golf Info

Geronimo Course Description

Geronimo is a "strong looking golf course", according to Jack Nicklaus. At 7,420 yards from the back tees, Geronimo is perhaps the most visually intimidating of the six courses. Winding through dramatic boulders, deep washes, ravines and lush desert, the drama of Geronimo is visible from the first hole, a stunning 570-yard par five with a large elevation drop to a broad fairway. The hole requires a well-struck second shot to set up the proper position to attack this shallow, well-bunkered green. For every carry over a deep ravine, designer Nicklaus provides a safe route for those less daring shot-makers.

Clubhouse

Geronimo Clubhouse

Designed by award-winning architect, Bob Bacon, the Taliesin-inspired architecture of the Cochise/Geronimo clubhouse combines elements of Native American, desert and contemporary styles. Handset Hualpai chocolate sandstone walls and a dramatic copper roof are natural complements to the sweeping views of the golf courses, mountains and desert landscapes.

Here you'll find the Men's and women's locker rooms, our Member Services department, a Golf pro shop and retail boutique.

Dining

There are three dining venues in this clubhouse - the main dining room, the Mixed Grill and the Men's Grill. A traditional club lunch menu of appetizers. sandwiches and salads are featured. Cochise/Geronimo also offers world-class catering for any occasion.

Desert Mountain Apache Golf Info

Apache Course Description

This Jack Nicklaus-designed course appeals to golfers with traditional sensibilities. At 7,211 yards from the back tees, Apache is no pushover. Gently rolling fairways, ample green complexes with subtle, grassy landing areas and deceptively sloping putting surfaces provide Members with a relaxed round of golf. The design strategy allows for many options from the tee and in the approaches to the green, with room to play run-up shots or fly it in high. The eighteenth hole features two separate greens - one easily found with a well-struck approach, and one set into a hillside fronted by an unforgiving wash known for its appetite for golf balls.

Clubhouse

Apache Clubhouse

Southwestern-inspired design provides a warm ambiance within the Apache clubhouse, which features fireplaces throughout, box beam ceilings, and cozy patio dining. Also featured is an extensive Native American art collection. At Apache, you'll find Men's and women's locker rooms, a golf pro shop and retail boutique.

Dining

The Apache Steakhouse offers expansive views of the golf course and Apache Peak. The menu includes seafood, chops and a great steak, which is dry-aged on-site using the oldest, most natural techniques. The intimate piano bar, featuring live entertainment is a favorite among members. Open for lunch and dinner, the dining room seats approximately 110 guests.

Chiricahua Course Description

Chiricahua Golf

For many, the fifth Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at Desert Mountain, Chiricahua, represents the pinnacle of the designer's desert achievements. Indeed, Chiricahua is the highest course on the property with elevations ranging from 2,800 to over 3,600 feet. The course provides majestic views from nearly every tee and features generous fairways, but properly placed tee shots are a must for the best approaches into its large, undulating greens. Truly a masterpiece of design, Chiricahua provides endless variety for Members and their guests.

Outlaw Course Description

Desert Mountain Outlaw Golf Info

The sixth and final course at Desert Mountain, Outlaw opened in late 2003, and is located on a 176-acre site adjacent to the Tonto National Forest. Jack Nicklaus took advantage of the many subtle terrain features, including native washes, gently rolling hills and many spectacular views. Nicklaus' goal: "to take what nature gave us and try to enhance it". Different from the style of the other five Nicklaus layouts at Desert Mountain, Outlaw plays more in the tradition of a Scottish links course. Bring your ground game, as this course asks you to hit a variety of high, low and bump-and-run shots. And as a backdrop, Outlaw provides striking views of Pinnacle Peak, the McDowell Mountains and Four Peaks.

Clubhouse

Outlaw Clubhouse

Resembling a 1900's "cowboy" ranch house where wrap-around porches and patios enhance the inviting and comfortable Outlaw- the newest clubhouse at Desert Mountain. Here you'll find the cozy Arizona Grill restaurant, a golf shop and retail boutique.

Highlights include smoked pork enchiladas and Texas chicken fried steak as well as Southwest-inspired salads and sandwiches. Ideal for formal gatherings, intimate private parties or a relaxing dinner for two, the Arizona Grill is open for lunch and dinner and happy hour.

Tennis Courts

Desert Mountain offers one of the most complete and aesthetically beautiful tennis facilities in the country, offering play on all three of the common surfaces, hard, clay and grass. All four of our sets of courts have a misting system surrounding the central covered seating area on the courts to provide our players with the utmost comfort while playing.

Hard Courts – We have three hard courts at Desert Mountain, all three having been resurfaced in the summer of 2005. The courts are very modern with a combination of the cushion based rubber inlays common in today’s hard-courts, which provide a more forgiving, player friendly feel. Traditionally, most leagues in the western half of the United States have used hard courts, so it is important to maintain three hard courts to facilitate all league play possibilities.

Clay Courts – The majority of clay courts are found in Europe, where red clay is by far the most popular court surface. If you’ve ever watched the French Open at Roland Garros, you have seen a prime example of red clay courts. In America, red clay courts can be found, although never in great abundance, in many places in the Northeast and some parts of the South, most notably Texas. On the eastern seaboard you can find the distinctive gray-green Har-Tru court, which is a clay court made from slightly different organic materials. These courts are exceedingly popular with our membership, providing a softer playing surface. The system we have is the Hydro Court system; this essentially is building a clay tennis court on top of a controlled water reservoir. The water level is completely level under the court, allowing evaporation and capillary action to provide water to the playing surface evenly. The system is ultimately very simple, very reliable and allows for an excellent playing surface.

Grass Court – Our Stadium Grass court or as we like to call it our “Wimbledon of the West” is an aesthetic work of art, making for a wonderful centerpiece for the entire Sonoran clubhouse. The grass court was designed with a full water heating system built under the court to provide additional heat for the court allowing for ideal growing conditions for the grass. Over the years our agronomy maintenance department in coordination with the tennis professionals have strived to upgrade, improve and ensure that the grass court surface is one of the finest in the world. On a recent trip to Desert Mountain, former World No.1, Stefan Edberg proclaimed it as the “finest conditioned grass court” he had seen.

Coupled with the beautiful aesthetic surroundings, it is certainly one of the most comfortable and pleasurable settings in which to play tennis at Desert Mountain.
